Secondary DNB

Secondary DNB exists because reading about National and actually doing it are two very different skills. This course closes that gap through direct, supervised surgical exposure. Participants work in small batches so every trainee gets meaningful console time, not just observation hours. Sessions combine ICO-OSCAR scored assessments, structured video discussion of recorded cases, and one-on-one feedback from senior faculty after every procedure. Graduates of this track consistently report that the structured feedback — not just the volume of cases — is what made the difference in how quickly they became independently competent. Batch sizes are announced in advance on a rolling basis, and early enrollment is recommended since seats at the flagship Kolkata centre in particular fill up well ahead of each intake.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A valid medical registration in ophthalmology (or the relevant allied field) is required before enrollment.
  • Seats are limited per batch to keep the trainer-to-trainee ratio low enough for genuine 1:1 supervision.
  • Candidates from other countries are also eligible, subject to fulfilling the procedural formalities of the Medical Council of India.

Description

  • The SUSRUT training system has produced more than a thousand trained ophthalmologists across India and abroad, many of whom now train others using the same structured method.
  • Every batch is assessed against the ICO-OSCAR international scoring standard, so a trainee's progress is comparable across cohorts, not just self-reported.
  • This programme is run at multiple centres (see Course Location below), with the same curriculum and assessment standard applied at every site.
